Service & Maintenance
More Than Service. A Long-Term Partnership.
At KLINGER Westad, we support our valves throughout their operational life – often for decades after delivery. Many of the valves we service today were delivered years ago, and we continue to provide documentation, spare parts and technical support whenever needed.
Over the years, vessels change owners, operators change, and documentation can be lost. Our extensive valve database allows us to trace delivery history, identify installed valves and provide the support required to keep operations running safely and reliably. Where service is performed by our expert service team, service history are kept by us.
Our aftermarket team operates 24/7/365, with rapid mobilization of both service personnel and spare parts. When support is needed, help is never far away.
EXTREME CONDITIONS
Reliability is earned in the environments where failure is not an option.
KLINGER Westad butterfly valves are designed and manufactured for some of the world’s most demanding applications. From cryogenic temperatures down to -196°C to elevated operating temperatures, every valve is built using carefully selected materials and proven designs developed through decades of experience.
Because in extreme conditions, performance is not measured by specifications alone. It is measured by reliable operation over time. With a minimum of down time.
DRY DOCK SERVICE AND OTHER MAINTENANCE
Our valves are designed for long service life and minimal maintenance. However, regular inspection and replacement of wear and tear components remain essential for maintaining reliable operation throughout the valve’s lifecycle.
To support our customers, KLINGER Westad provides experienced service engineers, OEM spare parts and proven maintenance procedures. By integrating valve maintenance into your planned maintenance primmarely during vessel scheduald dry-dockings, operators can minimize downtime, reduce risk and ensure efficient execution of service activities.
For LNG operators in particular, maintenance opportunities are often limited to dry-docking, shutdowns or planned repair periods. Our service engineers support LNG vessels worldwide and can mobilize to shipyards, repair facilities or, when required, sail with the vessel to service our valves.
With KLINGER Westad performing the service, customers can rely on the work being completed correctly, efficiently and with full support from the manufacturer. Each service is documented with a comprahensive service report to you as client.
We’re still supporting valves delivered decades ago.
When our customers need support, they shouldn’t have to explain the history. We already know it.
CRYOGENIC VALVES
Cryogenic valves operate in some of the most demanding conditions found in the maritime industry. Maintaining their performance requires specialized knowledge, training and experience.
Only KLINGER Westad Service Engineers are authorized to perform service and maintenance on Westad cryogenic butterfly valves. Their expertise ensures that every valve continues to perform as designed, safeguarding both safety and operational reliability.
Through long-term service agreements with many of the world’s leading LNG operators, we help customers maximize valve performance, plan maintenance effectively and reduce lifecycle costs.
Because reliable cryogenic operation is built on more than valve design alone. It is built on the knowledge and experience behind it. For an LNG carrier we primarely recommend 5-yearly service intervall on all liquid side valves.

How often should liquid-side valves be serviced?
We normally recommend 5-yearly Service intervals for all Liquid side valves onbard an LNG carrier. This means all 8 Manifold ESD valves, 8 Manifold Double Shut valves, 4 Tank Filling valves and 4 Tank Branch(Isolation) valves. In addition to these valves most Owners also prefer to Service the 2 Manifold Vapor (Port/Stb.) valves and of course any other valves with positive indication of leaks and/or any issues.
Can your Cryogenic Specialist sail with the vessel?
Subject 5-yearly services of recommended valves are executed; there should be minimal risk of problems between the vessels 5-yearly SS/DD’s.
Anyhow, in case unexpected problems arise, our Service Team are ready to embark for voyage repair/services upon your request.
Do you keep service history available if we need it?
YES, Klinger Westad keep files on all Services ad Service Reports. Same are at any time available for our clients upon request (soon online?). This has proven very valuable for new Owners/Managers after acquisition of 2nd. hand vessels were Service Records may have been lost.

Our Service Reports are from 2026 will normally be handed over at end of each Service, before our S/E leave the vessel. It contain detailed reports of each valve Serviced, vessel specific comments/advises as well general comments for optimal performances of our valves. All this are supported by photos taken during service. For information about our service reports please contact our aftermarket manager, Stein Eriksen. or send an email to service@klinger-westad.com
