KLINGER Westad
More than 130 years of experience
MORE THAN A CENTURY OF EXPERIENCE
For more than 130 years, KLINGER Westad has helped customers operate safely and reliably in demanding environments.
The story began in 1895, when Daniel Westad established the company to serve the local pulp and paper industry. As industries evolved and new opportunities emerged, Westad evolved with them.
By the 1950s, our focus had expanded to the marine industry, where reliability and long service life quickly became defining requirements. When Norway’s oil and gas industry emerged in the late 1970s, we adapted once again, developing valve solutions capable of meeting increasingly demanding operational conditions.
Throughout every transition, one thing remained unchanged:
A commitment to engineering quality, reliable performance and long-term customer support.
ADAPTING TO NEW CHALLENGES
As operating environments became more demanding, material requirements increased.
Westad responded by developing valve solutions using advanced materials such as Titanium, Duplex, Super Duplex and 6Mo stainless steels for critical applications where corrosion resistance, durability and reliability are essential.
Decades of experience in demanding industries have shaped the valves we design and manufacture today.
Not through theory alone.
But through continuous learning, real-world operation and close collaboration with customers.
BUILT FOR CRITICAL APPLICATIONS
Today, KLINGER Westad designs and manufactures high-performance double- and triple-offset butterfly valves for LNG, LPG, chemicals and other critical applications.

Our valves are trusted in:
- LNG carriers
- LPG and LEG tanker systems
- Chemical and product tankers
- LNG liquefaction, handling and storage facilities
- Offshore and land-based energy installations
- Critical seawater systems
- Corrosive mining applications
Wherever reliability is critical, experience matters.
STILL LEARNING. STILL SUPPORTING.
More than a century of experience has taught us that reliability is not achieved at the moment of delivery.
It is earned over years of operation.
That is why we continue to support valves long after they leave our factory. In many cases, we still provide spare parts, documentation and technical support for valves delivered decades ago.
Because while industries change, technologies evolve and new challenges emerge, our responsibility remains the same:
To help our customers operate safely and reliably throughout the entire lifecycle of their valves.

A 130 year history of reliability
Every milestone tells part of our story. From our beginnings in 1895 to today's global operations, KLINGER Westad has continued to evolve while staying true to what matters most: engineering reliable valve solutions for demanding applications.
1895
Established
Daniel Westad founds Westad Armaturfabrikk in Geithus, manufacturing valves for the local pulp & paper industry.
1950s
Setting a new course
Westad takes its first steps into the maritime industry, supplying valves for ocean-going vessels and laying the foundation for decades of marine expertise.
1960s to 1985
Engineering for new industries
The discovery of oil in the North Sea and the rapid growth of LNG transportation opened new opportunities for Westad. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, we expanded our product portfolio and engineering expertise to support offshore installations, LNG tankers and international shipbuilding. This period laid the foundation for many of the markets we continue to serve today.
1985 to 2013
Building Cryogenic Expertise
As the global LNG market expanded, Westad strengthened its position as a supplier of cryogenic valve solutions for LNG carriers and terminals. During this period, the company went through several ownership changes—from Bird Tech to Crane Corporation and later HitecVision—while continuing to invest in engineering expertise, product development and long-term customer relationships. These years further established Westad as a trusted partner for demanding LNG applications.
2013 still today
Part of the KLINGER Family
Joining the KLINGER Group marked the beginning of a new chapter for KLINGER Westad. While building on more than a century of engineering experience, we strengthened our global presence, expanded our product portfolio and continued to support customers in LNG, offshore and demanding process applications. Today, KLINGER Westad combines Norwegian engineering with the strength of a global network, delivering reliable valve solutions to customers around the world.
