KLINGER Westad has supplied cargo valves to this specialised segment for more than five decades. By combining our cryogenic expertise from LNG applications with the cost-effective and maintenance-friendly design of our high-performance butterfly valves for LPG and chemical service, we have developed a proven solution for liquefied ethane and ethylene.
Many of the latest Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) and Ultra Large Ethane Carriers (ULECs) are also equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of operating on ethane. On these vessels, Westad Scorpio 2X valves can serve a central role in both the cargo-handling and fuel gas supply systems—providing a proven, efficient solution across the vessel’s critical ethane systems.

Built on the proven Westad Scorpio 2X platform, our solution features carefully selected materials, a specially adapted sealing system and an extended bonnet design for operation at temperatures down to −110°C. The valve is engineered for reliable operation, ease of maintenance and a service life aligned with the lifetime expectations of the vessel.
